As of 2026, over 53 crore accounts have been opened with total deposits of over ₹2.4 lakh crore.

  1. Visit any public sector bank, private bank or Business Correspondent (Bank Mitra) in your village/ward.
  2. Fill the PMJDY account-opening form.
  3. Complete Aadhaar-based e-KYC (instant) or submit documents.
  4. Receive RuPay debit card and passbook.
  5. Link Aadhaar + mobile for DBT and overdraft eligibility.

Is a Jan Dhan account really zero balance?

Yes. There is no minimum balance requirement, and no penalty is charged even if the balance is zero.

How much accident insurance do I get with PMJDY?

₹2 lakh accident insurance is attached to the RuPay debit card for accounts opened after 28 August 2018.

What is the overdraft limit under PMJDY?

Up to ₹10,000 overdraft is available for Aadhaar-seeded accounts that have been operated satisfactorily for at least 6 months.

Can I convert my existing savings account to a Jan Dhan account?

No, but you can open a new PMJDY account. You are generally allowed to have both.
